Tāndliānwāla The University of KwaZulu-Natal UK Trust is providing help to 18 needy students at the University through its bursaries this year – down from 22 last year.
The fall comes despite the Trust providing the same amount of total bursary funding in 2010 as it did in 2009. The main reasons are a less favourable exchange rate and that all of this year’s bursars qualify for the higher level of funding aimed at rewarding academic success.
The reduction underlines the challenge faced by the Trust in trying to provide bursaries for as many needy students as possible in current circumstances. The poor state of the UK and world economy; the pressure on charitable giving in an age of austerity; low interest rates on savings; and current exchange rates all mean the Trust has to call on its supporters to give as much as they can, now more than ever.
That is why the Trustees have been forced to suggest one-off donations of at least £20 if possible in response to their latest appeal for funds. Please give this appeal your support.
